There should be a pinky sized gap between your heel and the back the of clog, and plenty of room in the toe box area. The instep will be the snuggest part of the shoe and your heel should lift up slightly out of the shoe as you walk.

My feet have gotten slightly larger with age. I now straddle between a 39 and 40 in Sanita. 39 is too close for comfort and the 40 is a tad too big and clunky. Erring on the side of caution with warmer temps and humidity, I went with the 40. DIY options are helping; extra holes punched in ankle strap and ball of foot cushions. These shoes are just TOO CUTE to give up on. Purchase with caution if between sizes.
