There should be a pinky sized gap between your heel and the back the of clog, and plenty of room in the toe box area. The instep will be the snuggest part of the shoe and your heel should lift up slightly out of the shoe as you walk.

I will say they run a little small, so for sure size up in in doubt. In fact I wish I would have bought one size up. I thought I’d be okay, but I regret not doing the exchange immediately. So my fault. That said, they are really well made, supportive, good quality. I would/will buy again.
