There should be a pinky sized gap between your heel and the back the of clog, and plenty of room in the toe box area. The instep will be the snuggest part of the shoe and your heel should lift up slightly out of the shoe as you walk.

I had to return the shoes; the sizing changed, and so I took the advice of customer service and ordered the next size up? I am an 8.5). The shoes arrived and , alas, fell off my feet they were so wide!! I have sent them back and am awaiting the new that I ordered this time in a narrow width.
