There should be a pinky sized gap between your heel and the back the of clog, and plenty of room in the toe box area. The instep will be the snuggest part of the shoe and your heel should lift up slightly out of the shoe as you walk.

I have been wearing Dansko clogs for 20 years as a Chef. The quality of them went down to the top of the shoes barely lasted a year with holes and peeling. Sanita clogs are such a relief they are more comfortable, durable, and are overall better quality.
