There should be a pinky sized gap between your heel and the back the of clog, and plenty of room in the toe box area. The instep will be the snuggest part of the shoe and your heel should lift up slightly out of the shoe as you walk.

After reading many reviews, on different sites, I decided to go up a size when ordering this new pair of Sanita clogs. When I received the new pair, which btw came very quickly, they were too big. I immediately returned them in exchange for my normal size. I must live relatively close to their distribution site because by the end of the next day I received a msg saying they had received the return and were processing the exchange. I received my new Sanitas in about a week, which I thought was pretty good.
Upon receipt, I put them on and walked around my house to try them out. The fit was perfect on both feet, and, for me, that is a rarity. I have a high instep, which can be a real pain, in more ways than one, when trying to find work shoes. It is one of the reasons I bought Sanitas. The Danskos I had pressed on my instep such that by the end of the day my foot hurt so bad. I never had that issue with my Sanitas.
I wore them to work for the first time and could not have been more pleased. They felt just like my old pair, no “breaking in” needed. Now I will just have to wait and see if they last like my old pair. I’ve had for the old ones for 9 years and it wasn’t until about a month ago that I really noticed how worn they were. I hope they do last because I love the multicolor of these. They’re a little iridescent, go with everything, and fun, not boring.
And last but not least, I very much like that they are made in Europe, not in China.
