There should be a pinky sized gap between your heel and the back the of clog, and plenty of room in the toe box area. The instep will be the snuggest part of the shoe and your heel should lift up slightly out of the shoe as you walk.

The shoes are great, but they are so tight on the top that my feet have marks on them. Unfortunately unable to return them since I wore them. Should have ordered a bit larger. But still awesome shoes. This is not my first pair. I definitely will order again.
As all of our shoes are handcrafted in Europe, there can be slight variations in fit. Also, different uppers will also fit differently, as some have more flexibility. While the leather may soften a bit, your Sanitas should fit comfortably out of the box and there shouldn't be a break in period. We recommend having this pair professionally stretched. Too short.
I have worn Sanita's for years. I have also worn Dansko, which my understanding Sanita made Dansko for the US market until Dansko started having their shoes made in China. I have 2 pairs of the Sanita brand now and 2 pairs of Dansk (made in China) that are falling apart. I needed a basic brown and also wanted to replace the blue. Having always have 41 that is what I ordered, both pairs of shoes I received are 41 and both are too short. The last pair of either brand I bought was 4 years ago. My feet are the same size, I had them measured, and my current shoes fit great. My great toes touch the ends of the new shoes and no room at heel space. These new shoes seem to be just shorter. Unusual, and not sure if I should send back for refund or order a size 42. Either way the shoes have to go back.

I wear these all day at work for up to 12 hours, and they are very comfortable. Classic Sanita fit with just a little flexibility.
